UPDATES

FP34a  The lower start from Erimitis remains untidy! It is now paralleled by a thick, black electricity cable which makes it easier to follow, I am told.

FP34b  The branch path which leads (signposted) to the Boikátika wells, is cleared and easy from V.Elvira to them. However the short length N of this which connects to FP34a is terribly overgrown.

Text Box: FP34c Was also walked by Kevin and is now properly plotted right down to the rock ledges.
The path to the point starts walled both sides, then one side only (L) then open across bed-rock and screes variously before exiting onto the rock-slabs – all with fabulous views.
The uprights of the rope handrail remain and there are signs of a boat mooring below. It seems to be just possible, at one spot only, around to the left (i.e. towards the Bay) to swim with hope of getting back ashore but swimming-shoes would be vital.

FP38 There is some new building around its up-hill end.

Text Box: FP43a Corrected approach FP43a After we discovered Ellinki Cisterna and what we thought to be the footpath down to it, it was not long before we found we were wrong, at least as far as its approach.

In fact, instead of the difficult, very steep and lower down, prickly approach down the side of V.Bougazi, there is, in fact, a perfectly formed, stepped and walled path which goes down from the vehicle track 50m. before the villa on the RH (W) side of the track (FP43), starting by a concrete pole carrying an electricity meter. It is right opposite the widening of the track to form a parking place. See corrected Map above.

FP45 I have been told that when, years ago, the area around Ozias/Zenibisátika etc. functioned as the Island’s Capitol (moved and hidden inland to avoid Turkish Pirate raids), this building was the Town Hall.

FP47 Page 92, 2nd..line, 2nd.para. should read “W. gable of Church” The path varies a bit from my drawn line, I am advised!

FP47a  Much cleared but if travelling E > W the route is rather vague after the walled path above the cottage opens out into garigue. Generally keep L as shown on Map and where there appears to be a choice, take the lower route but beware being diverted onto the path which descends to Trypitós.

FP47c  The branch which goes off S back towards the Windmill, is rather further W of the ruined hut when travelling in the arrowed direction, compared with how it appears on the Map. It is more or less opposite the ‘House with Olive tree & stone seat’
Text Box: FP49b Bulldozing and building
FP49b. Kevin managed to get from the Causeway along the cliff top – keeping near to the edge and thus clear of the jungle – to connect with FP49b near the iron gate.  Goat tracks rather than a footpath, though.

The bulldozing of 49b has continued, leaving the wall on the coastal side, as far as the ‘seat’ (which has now disappeared). There is a walled enclosure (house site?) on R on the short straight, & further on there is a large clearance on-going on the L and below this. The walled path continues from here.
Text Box: On FP51a Returning, from the huts L to the iron gate L, all along the S side of the track (behind the wall) has been cleared. Beyond the hut on the N side, is a new bungalow and more cleared land.

FP49d  The bottom (north) end of this path has been diverted a bit further up FP49e to avoid a new villa complex.

FP51  Much better than it was but still a bit prickly. From the NW end, the first 150metres has been bulldozed out to serve what looks to be a new house site to the S of the path on the 1st. l.h. bend. One still has to climb out of the walled path in places to parallel it though the olives. There is a short cleared branch S to a view-point, near the electricity pole, a little way down the steep part of the path approaching Porto Oziás. The lower, walled-path branch has not been cleared, so whether it once connected to FP49b remains a mystery.

FP51a The eastern end remains as before and is well defined, if narrow. See photo above

FP52etc. Much bulldozing has greatly altered things on the N approach to  Kambos Korah and the old route of FP52b is largely destroyed. The one remaining, positive, landmark is the old stone hut at the end of the paved road. On the 10a Edition Map, as you will see, turning L here FP52 is a bulldozed track ending in another hut, this time built of wood. Ahead and below you will see a prominent stone wall. The path to this is not immediately apparent but stepping down through the olive groves here is easy enough and you can pick up the wall anywhere (the path actually joins it by an electricity pole). Then follow the wall down to the Coast Road just beyond the Paxos Beach Hotel.
